Ames police, fire crews rescue distraught woman clinging to bridge 

Police and fire crews in Ames rescued a woman clinging to a railroad bridge early Thursday morning.According to the Ames Police Department, officers were contacted by the Union Pacific Railroad, who reported a person on the outside railing on the railroad bridge at Dayton Avenue at 1:27 a.m.“When officers arrived, they found a distraught adult female grasping the railing. Officers physically held the woman to keep her from falling to the tracks below,” Ames police said through a news release.The Ames Fire Department was called to assist in the rescue. Police said officers held the woman in place while fire crews positioned a ladder truck. The woman and the officers were secured and brought to the ground safely.According to police, the woman was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center for evaluation.Police said anyone with information relating to this incident is encouraged to contact the Ames Police Department at 239-5133 or the anonymous tip line, 239-5533.
